Meet Siqueiros and Gregorio

Gregorio LukeImagine introducing your friends to one of the greatest Mexican muralists, David Alfaro Siqueiros. Amigos de Siqueiros is offering the unique opportunity for you to host an intimate fundraising party at your home or a location of your choice. During the event, our Executive Director, Gregorio Luke, will present a multimedia presentation on Siqueiros’ life and work.

Special emphasis will be placed on América Tropical and the efforts to restore it. Gregorio will engage you and your guests in an unforgettable experience. Hosts are responsible for providing a minimum of ten guests, along with food and beverages. The goal is to raise $3,000.

Murals Under the Stars

For larger fundraisers, Amigos de Siqueiros offers you the opportunity to organize a “Murals Under the Stars” presentation with Gregorio Luke. Gregorio will project larger than life images of Siqueiros’ murals for this multimedia event using a large screen or external white wall. This event is appropriate for a minimum of 500 people and the aim is to raise $10,000.

Gregorio Luke discussing America Tropical

Gregorio Luke (gregorioluke.com) is an internationally recognized lecturer on Mexican and Latin American art and culture. Prior to joining Amigos de Siqueiros as the Executive Director, Gregorio Luke held positions as the Director of the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, the former Consul of Cultural Affairs of Mexico in Los Angeles, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C.

David Alfaro Siqueiros

David Alfaro Siqueiros (1896-1974) was a Mexican muralist who along with Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco, were collectively known as Los Tres Grandes. Siqueiros fought in the Mexican Revolution and against Franco’s fascists during the Spanish Civil War, and remained a political activist throughout his life.

América Tropical

The title América Tropical conjures images of a romantic paradise replete with lush foliage and exotic birds, yet the mural’s content defies such conventional expectations. Unveiled on the night of October 9, 1932, the expansive (18’ x 82’) mural depicted, among the foliage and birds, a sym bolic central figure – a crucified indigenous man.
